The New Testament contains several books within it. The first four books of the New Testament are typically called the Gospels. The word Gospel means "The Good News". These books account for the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus. The book that follows the Gospels is Acts. It accounts the Acts of the Apostles as they worked to spread the Gospel to the entire world. (Mark 16:15) The next twenty-two books are letters or epistles. These letters were either written to local churches (The Corinthians or the Thessalonians) or to individual Christians (Timothy or Philemon). The final book of the New Testament is Revelation, which was written to inspire persecuted Christians to make a stand for their faith in Jesus. For two thousand years God preserved these writings for all those who would serve him. To find God's will for us today we must turn to the teaching in the New Testament. |
